Powertrains Ready to Tow Toys & Gear

The 2025 RAM 1500 is available in three powertrains. The standard engine configuration includes a 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that delivers 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. The automaker also offers a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six called the Hurricane. This engine delivers 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque.

The third configuration is the same engine, tuned for a high-output delivery of 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque. All engines are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. All engines have the capability to tow, but some are better suited to heavier loads.

Configurations & Towing Capabilities

At the top of the towing capability list is the 3.0-liter Hurricane engine configured with a Quad Cab and a 6-foot 4-inch bed. The Quad Cab has a smaller back door and rear bench seat than the larger Crew Cab. This configuration is only available in the Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, and the Big Horn trims, and the maximum towing with this configuration is 11,550 pounds. When the same engine is configured with the Crew Cab and the 5-foot 7-inch bed, the towing capability is 11,510 pounds.

The standard Pentastar engine can tow between 6,580 pounds and 8,110 pounds, depending on the cab and bed configuration. The high-output Hurricane engine can tow between 8,380 and 9,920 pounds.

Towing equipment matters and the RAM 1500 has impressive towing technology. Optional towing features include Trailer Hitch Assist, Trailer Reverse Guidance with Dynamic Gridlines, a Digital Rearview Mirror with Tow Mode, Power Telescoping Trailer Tow Mirrors, and an Integrated Health Monitor.
