Explore the Extensive Horsepower and Engine Options in the 2021 Dodge Challenger

High Horsepower and AWD Available

The classic American muscle car has always been about aggressive aesthetics paired with equally aggressive power and performance. Sports car buyers will find both of these married nicely in the 2021 Dodge Challenger.

Five available engines give buyers a selection of horsepower and torque options. Additionally, the 2021 Dodge Challenger is the only muscle coupe with AWD available. As well, there are 10 distinct trims to choose from, and three hood designs that help aid in engine cooling and boost performance.

Five Engine Options

Thanks to years of fine tuning and listening to market demand, Dodge now offers a large selection of engine options available for the historic Challenger muscle coupe. At the base level (standard with the SXT and GT trims), Dodge provides its 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine. With 303 horsepower, this engine is no lightweight. It’s also available for both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive trims.

For R/T buyers, the 375 horsepower 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine is the standard powerstation. This engine is built with a fuel-saving MDS technology that can switch from eight to 4 cylinders.

One step up in power from there is the 392 HEMI® V8 engine. Standard in the 2021 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack trimline, this powerful engine delivers 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque.

The current penultimate engine option for this muscle coupe is the supercharged 6.2L HEMI® V8 engine that comes standard on the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. When included with the Hellcat, the Challenger is capable of putting out 717 horsepower and 656 lb-ft of torque.

If you’re after the best power and performance available for muscle cars, you can’t go wrong with the 2021 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye or Challenger SRT Super Stock. These trims earn the right to carry the supercharged 6.2L High-Output HEMI® V8 engine which generates 807 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque.

Only Muscle Coupe with All-Wheel Drive

Rear-wheel drive is standard across almost every muscle car on the market. In fact, RWD is so essential to the classic muscle sports car design that Dodge competitor Ford nearly destroyed its Mustang brand in the mid 1980s. Thankfully, Dodge has never made that mistake, and in fact, Dodge is now the only manufacturer that provides both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options for several of its trims. Both the popular SXT and GT trims are available with either RWD or AWD.

Manual and Automatic Transmission Options

Automatic vs manual transmission arguments could start wars, but there’s no need to be straddled with one or the other. The V6 engine trims (SXT and GT) include Dodge’s 8-speed transmission standard. If you’re planning to purchase any other trim level, you can choose between two or more engines, and between the 6-speed manual TREMEC transmission or the TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission.
