RESALE MARKET VALUE
It’s evidently obvious we think the 2020 RAM 1500 is a better truck than the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado. So, we’ll let acclaimed car reviewer U.S. News & World Report explain it. The magazine compared both models head to head and the winner is the RAM 1500.
“The RAM 1500’s superb cabin design and tech features alone have changed what buyers can come to expect in a full-size truck. While it might not have class-leading towing capability, the RAM delivers enough performance for just about any job. Combine this with the RAM’s supple ride, new fuel-saving tech, off-road capability, and some incredibly luxurious upper-trim levels, and it becomes clear the RAM is now the pickup truck to beat,” said the magazine in its review.
Lastly, the 2020 RAM 1500 was named MotorTrend Truck Of The Year, for the second year in a row.
The 2020 RAM 1500 is available for purchase or lease at Central Florida Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM.
OVERALL
The RAM 1500’s recent redesign brought with it an impressive array of upscale features, some of which the competition has yet to offer in their models. Here are 3 of these premium features:
- The class-exclusive RAMBox ® Cargo Management System with features items such as built-in cargo box lighting, cargo bed rails with adjustable tie-downs, cargo bed extender and divider and more.
- RAM 1500 has the largest-in-class* 12-inch digital touchscreen. In comparison, the Silverado’s is 8 inches.
- There won’t be any boring drives with the 1500’s 19-speaker Harman-Kardon ® Premium Audio System.
Furthermore, noted car experts Car and Driver said of the RAM 1500, “We remain convinced that this is the ultimate truck for a world where pickups are used as commuters and family haulers.”
PERFORMANCE
The 2020 RAM 1500’s base engine is more powerful than the Silverado’s base engine. Ours offers 305 HP with a 3.6L Pentastar V6 with e-torque, while theirs offers a 4.3L EcoTec3 V6. The RAM 1500’s 3.0L Turbocharged V6 diesel engine produces 20 lbs.-ft. of torque more than the Silverado’s 3.0L turbo diesel. As tested, the RAM 1500 is faster than the Silverado and it brakes better too. RAM’s brake rotors are larger than Chevrolet’s. In the front, RAM offers 14.9-inch rotors and 14.8-inch rotors in the back. The Silverado has 13.5-inch rotors and 14.1-inch rotors, respectively.
In the end, what matters is how quickly the truck can stop. In a test, the RAM took 122 feet to go from 60 to 0 MPH; whereas the Silverado did it in 134 feet. Furthermore, the RAM 1500 offers a rear stabilizer bar and the Silverado does not. Lastly, the RAM 1500 has a standard automatic load leveling suspension that keeps ride height constant when hauling or carrying a large load. The Silverado doesn’t offer this option, not even as an upgrade.
SAFETY
All automobile manufacturers take pains in making their vehicles safe. Most vehicles these days offer about the same features. However, RAM offers many features that are standard but are extra in the competition. RAM vehicles are designed to help the driver and passengers stay safe and secure. Some of the safety features RAM offers are: headlamps that turn up to 15 degrees to help with nighttime visibility with Adaptive Forward Lighting System, Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, Blind Spot Monitoring and Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist thanks to Lanesense ®.
INTERIOR
To say the interior of the 2020 RAM 1500 is luxurious is an understatement. Plenty of leg and head room in both, but the RAM’s 45.2 inches in the rear beats Chevy’s 43.4 inches. Add to that the fact Chevy doesn’t offer back row heated seats like RAM does and it’s clear which truck offers more comfort.
“Normally, the comfy confines of the Silverado would stand a chance among most pickup trucks in terms of seat comfort. Compared to the opulence offered in the RAM, however, the Chevy is outclassed,” said U.S. News & World Report in its review of the 2020 RAM 1500. “Chevrolet did a commendable job updating the Silverado’s cabin and fitting it with perfectly-acceptable materials and trim. It’s just that the RAM 1500 has moved the bar much higher. In upscale trim levels, like the Laramie Longhorn and Limited, the RAM’s mix of leather, matte wood trim, and metallic highlights is stunning. In comparison, the Silverado can seem like, at its core, a simple work truck.”
